Thousands of people marched through London and other UK cities on Saturday to condemn Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip during war with Hamas.

During the march in London, protesters called for sanctions against Israel. Some carried Palestinian flags and threw green and red smoke flares into the air. "Free Palestine," "Stop bombing Gaza," and "Sanctions on Israel" were among the banners carried by others.

On Friday, an Egyptian-mediated truce brought an end to 11 days of hostilities in Gaza, during which the Israeli military pummelling Gaza with air strikes in retaliation to rockets fired at Israel by Palestinian organisations.

Medical officials in Gaza reported 248 deaths, and aid workers have expressed concern about the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave.

During the hostilities, the Israeli military said Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other groups launched about 4,350 missiles, many of which did not hit Israel or were intercepted, according to health officials.
